FOOTLOOSE & FEARLESS @ FIFTY+ is a humorous
and vivid account of one woman’s attempt to transform her life
by adventuring to Latin America and, just for the sake of it,
New York on the way back. This is a journey from which she would
never look back. It isn’t a story of swank hotels and high living;
it is a journey of cheap hostels, hotels and airbnb lodgings.
It describes the catalyst for leaving, the
many obstacles she confronts from speaking no Spanish, questioning
her own sanity for going in the first place and wondering if
she would fit with the other much younger travellers. And, more
than anything, there is the three stone bag on wheels containing
a stove top coffee pot, hair straighteners, Epilady, 500 vitamins,
all manner of lotions and potions and six pairs of gorgeous
shoes, none of which were sensible. Glamour at any price!
Ultimately, nothing matters as much as the joy of simply living
and observing her new life. There are friendships, earthquakes,
planes, boats buses and bicycles. There is a death defying motorbike
ride, horse trekking, swimming and an awful lot of walking –
practically every inch of Manhattan.
More than anything though, it is an inspirational
record of the simple joy of diving in and not being afraid to
sample everything plus the realisation that if you want to change
your life, the only person stopping you, is you.
